GHMC commissioner Dana Kishore today stated that the Diwali crackers should be fired for only 2 hours. That is between 8 and 10 PM . The Supreme Court also has given permission for 2 hours. This is to reduce noise pollution and air pollution. It may be noted that Delhi is already polluted and the pollution is rising in other cities also.
To keep the pollution under check this decision has been taken. But the Tamilnadu government is trying to fix its own timing for 2hours for crackers on the Diwali day. Diwali is on 7nth across the country.
Meanwhile, the owners of cracker shops are making a hue and cry that this would cut into their business. As it is the big companies who manufacture crackers have reduced the production as the time of lighting the crackers has been limited and there are several restrictions on sales also.
