Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Hyderabad Chapter organised its third Annual Conference with the theme unfolding Fraud Deterrence. As the pandemic has not given way to the normal life yet in hybrid mode where physical presence is limited to 100 members and others in huge numbers accessed it online from several countries.
Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is the world’s largest non-profit Anti-Fraud Organization and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education. Its mission is to reduce the incidence of fraud and white-collar crime and to assist the Members in fraud detection and deterrence. ACFE is headquartered at Austin, USA and they have Chapters all over the world including India. ACFE has around 90,000 Members globally.
The Director General of Police, Telangana State, M. Mahender Reddy, IPS, inaugurated the conference and complimented the tremendous work being done by ACFE in the areas of fraud deterrence and the knowledge updations that were being imparting to the members by their quality trainings, publications, seminars/webinars and other educational material.
He said that thanks to the rapid strides in technology and its extended usage by the law enforcement agencies, traditional crimes are also being investigated and are successfully cracked. He informed the participants that the Government also recognised the need for enhanced skillset and set up an exclusive National Forensic University at Gandhinagar, Gujarat State. In the times when the technology based frauds and on the rise at alarming levels, Police Department is also gearing up and is enhancing the skills of the personnel of the Police Department.
Referring the ‘Report to the Nations 2020’ of the ACFE, he recognised that the organisations with CFE’s as their staff uncovered frauds 50% sooner and are having losses 55% lower. 75% of Fortune 500 companies employ CFEs.
In his keynote address, the Commissioner of Police Cyberabad Stephen Raveendra, IPS, stated that as head of the Cyberabad Commissionerate which is one of the Technological Hubs in the country he regularly interact with the young professionals and CFEs are another elite group of anti-fraud professionals eager to deploy their skillset and knowledge for fraud prevention.
In his address to the participants, Mr. Bruce Dorris, International President of ACFE, spoke in detail on fraud triangle. He brought in a new concept of Justification of psychological distance connected to physical distance in fraud deterrence.
Mr. Aloka Prabhakar, IPS and former Spl DG IB, spoke on the Role of Ethics in fraud deterrence. He stressed upon the importance of fragile and thin line between ethical and unethical thinking and one should be conscious of the fact that whether they are on line or have they crossed it.
The International cyber security expert and author of many books on the subject, Shri Amit Dubey spoke on Cyber frauds – Transformative Trends and Mitigation Methods. He demonstrated various online tools in identifying personal information that was compromised.
