Senior Telugu movie comedianGundu Hanumantha Rao passed away in the wee hours at his residence in SR Nagar here. He was 61.
The actor was suffering from heart and kidney ailments for a long time and was undergoing treatment. He is survived by his son. His wife had passed away in 2010.
Rao was battling a financial crisis, following which the State government had come forward to help him with his treatment.
Actor Chiranjeevi had also helped the actor recently to pay his medical expenses.
The Telugu film industry and members of Movie Artists Association (MAA) expressed their condolences over the demise of the actor.
Born in Vijayawada on October 10, 1956, Hanumantha Rao had made his beginnings through theatre, where he left an indelible print.
After performing many roles onstage, the actor made his debut on the big screen in 1987 with Jandhyala’s ‘Aha Na Pellanta’, which gave him a break from where he never had to look back
