Amidst heavy police bundobust, UP CM Yogi visited the Bhagyalaxmi Temple here at Charminar in Hyderabad this morning. He was accompanied by MP Dr Laxman, BJP Chief Bandi Sanjay and also the local MLA Raja Singh.
The Telangana BJP has planned to generate a buzz around the national executive meet by organising Yogi’s visit to the Bhagyalakhshmi temple in the Old City.
Much like the Ram temple in Ayodhya, it has been a bone of contention between the BJP and All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) headed by Assaduddin Owaisi.
Asad Owaisi has been constantly opposing the construction of the temple around iconic Charminar. Now the BJP wants to win Hyderabad and Raja Singh could be the MP candidate.
In November 2012 the Andhra Pradesh High Court banned any construction or expansion activity around the area. The AIMIM dominates the area that the BJP has been trying to dismantle through its “temple movement”.
BJP has planned to push the “Yogi model” of governance during the upcoming Telangana elections. During the last five years it has invested a lot in the development of Ayodhya and made it a major centre for pilgrimage in the country. It may be recalled that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had offered prayers there during the prestigious civic elections in November 2020.
CM Yogi had then campaigned for the party and laid stress on renaming Hyderabad as “Bhagyanagar” but he had avoided visiting the temple.
At that time the state BJP claimed that Hyderabad was earlier known as Bhagyanagar but was later changed to Hyderabad by Mohammad Quli Qutub Shah.
