The Agama pandits and the EO of the Vijayawada Temple at Indrakiladri did not follow the sentiments before taking it for Teppa Utsavam it is reported. The police have to break a nut and take the procession into the water as they have been doing it since last several decades. The procession of the Durga Ammavaru was just taken over brushing the police aside.
Both the archakas and the police were sitting on a dharna as the procession was stalled for some time. Tension prevailed on the hill shrine in Vijayawada. While the police charged that they were not allowed to break nut, the EO said that they were waiting for the sun to set so that they can take the procession for Teppautsavam.
The lady EO said that the situation was under control and they were doing as per the changed rules and there was tension in the procession. There were unruly scenes as both the local police and the Archakas were arguing with each other. The EO and others said that there was no need for the police to break a nut.
The procession was supposed to go to the Krishna water where Ammavaru will be taken on a float into the water with lights and other decorations. But the procession was stopped in between as the police argued that the procession must be handed over to them and they would return Ammavaru to the temple after the Teppautsavam. The EO and other Archakas argued that there was no need and brushed the police aside.
The Archakas sat on the spot performing poojas and chanting of the mantras. The EO did not convince the media who questioned her about the traditions and wanted the media and cameras to stay out of the issue. The arguments continued for some time.
