If the Advertisements and endorsements are misleading the people, then the celebrities doing the ads will be penalised. The Central government has brought in new rules and regulations to be implemented from this month.

Allu Arjun who has done an advertisement for a two-wheeler taxi service was warned by TSRTC Chairman for talking against the Bus services.

They were forced to change the lines. Amitabh and Akshay were also questioned for doing ads which go against the interest of the public in general.

To be sure, this isn’t the first instance that celebrity endorsements have come into the spotlight. In 2019, the government had brought the Consumer Protection Act into effect, seeking to make celebrities liable for their endorsements.

The Act, which put in place a Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to regulate matters, stipulated stiff penalties — from a fine of Rs 10-50 lakh to a jail term of five years — for those making false claims.

It also sought to bar a celebrity from endorsing a product for up to a year, extending it to three years for repeat offences. Now the content writers must be doubly careful before making tall claims on the products that they are projecting.
