CCTV for better Policing through AI

A confluence session of industry leaders, technologists, innovators and researchers to understand the solution possibilities leveraging the latest from AI to enable better policing using the CCTV camera network.

The roundtable was organised by IIITH’s Applied AI Research Center & Smart City Living Lab and was chaired by M. Stephen Raveendra, IPS., Commissioner Of Cyberabad Metropolitan Police.

Even though Hyderabad has Extensive CCTV camera networks are being set up in many cities including Hyderabad. Today the network is primarily being used for retrospectively investigating incidents for Traffic, Law & Order and Crime.

The round table had representation from majors, Society for Cyberabad Security Council, startups, EBTC, Amsterdam innovation Area and major corporations like PwC, Quantela, LTI, Airtel.

Roundtable discussed areas where AI and computer vision technology available today can be leveraged to build safe communities. These emerging technologies can help in prevention and reduction of crime, make cities more secure, provide support for the police force and other entities beyond crime detection. AI can improve the seamless interconnection between municipal bodies and also help in safeguarding the lives of police and law enforcers.

Prof PJ Narayanan, Director of IIITH said “We are keen to see our research work help society at large. With the recent advances in computer vision research, today many solutions are possible that can help with Policing. DCP Vijay Kumar, IPS, DCP Traffic Cyberabad and Krishna Yedula, Secretary-General of SCSC participated and shared their inputs.
