The Supreme Court has reinstated the CBI chief who was forced to go on leave by the BJP Government. But he will not be able to take up major assignment until and unless he is cleared of the charges levelled against him.

The CVC is enquiring into the allegations on the CBI Chief Alok Varma. The Supreme Court in its order opined that the Government or the CVC should have referred the matter to Chief Justice of India, PM of India and also the leader of the opposition before removing the CBI chief from the post.

The Supreme Court has set aside the order which named Nageshwar Rao as the Interim Chief with limited Powers, Alok is immediately reinstated as the CBI chief.

However, the CBI chiefs two-year tenure will end on this January 31st. The Congress chief has been complaining from the beginning that the removal of CBI chief was Unilateral and that the Government was interfering in the functioning of the higher Institutions. Rahul charged that the CBI chief was removed from the post for enquiring into the Rafale deal where PM Modi was the real accused.
