Eknath Shinde government will continue in Maharashtra as the Supreme Court said that it cannot order the restoration of Uddhav Thackeray’s government as he resigned without facing the floor test. In a big relief to the Shinde government, the apex court said that it can’t disqualify Shinde for revolting against the former chief minister.
The Supreme Court delivered its landmark judgement on Thursday in a batch of petitions related to the Maharashtra political crisis of 2022, which led to Eknath Shinde taking over as Chief Minister from Uddhav Thackeray following a split in the Shiv Sena.
The case was heard by a 5-judge bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice MR Shah, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice Hima Kohli and Justice PS Narasimha. The bench had reserved its verdict in the matter on March 16 after hearing it for eight days.
Meanwhile, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that Eknath Shinde will continue to be the chief minister of Maharashtra and the next elections will be contested under his leadership,
“I am sorry to use the word but it is an arena of idiots. I am telling you that Eknath Shinde will remain the chief minister and we will contest the next elections under his leadership.
