Anti- Drug abuse committees formed at the College level

Commissioner Of Police, Cyberabad Stephen Raveendra, IPS., today inaugurated an anti-drug awareness campaign at Tech Mahindra aimed at students of various schools and colleges for drugs free campuses. Crimes DCP Shri Kalmeshwar Shingenavar, IPS., Shamshabad DCP Shri Jagadishwar Reddy, Madhapur DCP Smt. Shilpavalli, All ACPs, Inspectors and others were present. Students from 148 Educational institutes from Cyberabad limits have attended the event.

CP Said.. The government of Telangana is committed to eradicating the drugs menace. The initiative was started to reach out to the public and spread awareness about the ill effects of drugs. Cyberabad Police were committed to combating illicit drugs and determined to step up the fight. The approach of the Cyberabad Police comprises awareness and strict enforcement. Our mission is supported by the local public and the State government. Later, the police released posters and flyers.

Anti Drugs committees with different stakeholders are formed to eradicate the drugs menace. In each college Committee One Faculty member One Non-teaching faculty member, Preferably from Security One Representative from Parents One Representative from the local police station. One representative from students from each stream is available in the Institute One representative from Counselling and Psychological Services of the Institute/ Health Department/ NGO. Hostel warden if hostel facility is available. One Representative from Institution’s medical unit if available. The Head of the Institute/ Principal shall act as the Chairperson. This committee will identify drug users and inform the police. Committee will look after preventive measures.

Cyberabad Police first of its kind started Anti-Drug Abuse Committees in Telangana State with an aim of bringing in more awareness against drug abuse and dissuading people from using ganja and other drugs, the Cyberabad Police are now organising awareness programmes in Cyberabad he added.

CP re-iterated to make this a social movement and students should actively participate in this movement. The purpose of this committee is to engage students in a positive way. If the future of the student is brighter then the nation is also brighter.

CP said … be instrumental in early identification and providing access to assistance by working along with students, management, law enforcement and other agencies. Evolve mechanisms to identify students who are most vulnerable to addiction and also means of reporting drug abuse on campus.

Support the Institute in the enforcement of anti-drug measures. Coordinating with all external agencies like the medical department, Police, excise, NGOs, etc in implementing the anti-drug policy on the campus.
