The BJP is in trouble with the central Government not according a special status to the Andhra Pradesh as promised earlier. But now the centre has taken a U turn by announcing a package. Now there is no chance of getting the so called special status to AP.

The Union Minister from Andhra Venkaiah is coming to the state today to explain people as to how the package was better than the status. The communists and other leaders of opposition have staged a dharna and called Venkaiah a 420 in this connection. Both the CM Chandrababu and Venkaiah have sold the state to Centre they alleged. They are trying to disrupt the meeting of the Union Minister.

Earlier the senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh would be accorded special category status even as Telangana assembly adopted a resolution seeking identical status.

“There is no confusion about this (special category status),” said Venkaiah, speaking at a felicitation organised by BJP.

He said the new government at the Centre would give special status to Andhra Pradesh, which now needs a new capital and is facing many developmental challenges.

The Union Ministers assurance came a day after a Planning Commission spokesperson had said in New Delhi that “the proposal to accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh is still under consideration” but no decision has been taken.

Venkaiah spoke to Union Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on the issue and soon after that the Commission clarified that no decision to deny the status had been taken.

But now he has changed his tune and has taken a U turn. Facing the flak he is trying to explain the present situation.
