Andaman Police participate in Green India Challenge

NMA Andaman District began Police Raising week with plantation and cleanliness drives in Diglipur, Rangat, Mayabandar and Kalighat Police stations.

The Plantation event was organized by SP NMA – Andaman Nicobar Islands as part of Green India Challenge initiated by Rajya Sabha MP Joginapally Santosh Kumar.

Awareness programmes on PAT regulations was also organised in PS Kadamatla. The ‘Green India Challenge’ of planting trees is edging towards the five crore sapling mark, said founder of Igniting Minds M Karunakar Reddy, who launched the tree planting challenge under the ‘Hara Hai Tho Bhara Hai’ umbrella .

The sapling that took the tree plantation drive to the one crore mark was planted by IT, Industries and MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao some time ago, the two crore mark was reached with TRS Rajya Sabha MP, J Santosh Kumar, who is also the patron of the challenge, planting a sapling recently.

The ‘Green India Challenge’ turned into a people’s movement from its humble beginning a little over a year ago. The concept behind the challenge is that each person plants three saplings and takes care of them for three years which should then be able to survive on their own supplying over their lifetime, the oxygen required for one human being’s average life span, Karunakar Reddy said.

Among those who planted trees under the ‘Green Indian Challenge’ have been Padmasri Vanajeevi Ramaiah, Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, BJP working president JP Nadda, movie actors Chiranjeevi, and Nagarujna, sportspersons such as Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, P Gopichand, Kidambi Srikant, PV Sindhu, Sania Mirza, and Dutee Chand.
