Rahul Gandhi the Congress chief said that giving Rs 17 to the farmers a day is nothing but insulting them. He was commenting on the interim budget. Minister Piyush Goel who presented the budget announced that the farmers who have agricultural lands under 5 acres would get Rs6000 in three instalments amounting to Rs 17 a day.

Senior Congress leader Chidambaram said that this is the budget for votes. But Piyush Goel said that this was to address the rural distress and especially the farming community.
