Amma Jayalalithaa on respiratory support

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who has been undergoing medical treatment at Apollo Hospitals here, is on “respiratory support” and her condition continues to improve, the hospital stated on Monday.

The “treatment plan, including appropriate antibiotics, respiratory support and other allied clinical measures are presently being continued to treat the infection,” the hospital said in a release.

The Chief Minister was “responding adequately” to the comprehensive treatment being given to her, and a team of doctors was collectively monitoring her treatment.

She “has been advised further stay in the hospital for treatment,” the release from the hospital’s chief operating officer Subbiah Viswanathan added.On a day Dr. Richard Beale, consultant intensivist from the London Bridge Hospital, continued to monitor Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s vitals and parameters, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, who visited her at Apollo Hospitals, found her to be “recovering well.”

Rao, who visited the hospital at 6.45 p.m. on Saturday, was briefed by Dr. Pratap C. Reddy, chairman, Apollo Hospitals, on the treatment being given to Ms. Jayalalithaa. He was in the hospital for around 30 minutes.

“The Governor was happy to note that the Hon’ble Chief Minister is recovering well,” said a Raj Bhavan press release, issued by the Governor’s Principal Secretary. It is learnt that the Governor had, along with Dr. Reddy, seen Ms. Jayalalithaa in the ward where she is being given treatment.
