Apart from remuneration, he will also take the rights of one region for the movie so that he will get more profits.
With OTT platforms and the Pan India concept, the value and sale of a movie have gone up leaps and bounds. The nontheatrical rights itself are fetching a hundred crore even before the release of a movie.
So making a movie is remunerative in many ways. You can sell directly to the OTT also. There are movies that have done exceedingly well on the OTT also.
