Medigadda Barrage is the first and most important work under the Kaleshwaram Project. The barrage has been constructed without any submergence as part of Godavari at Ambati village, of Mahadevpur Mandal, in Jayashankar Bhupalapally district. The barrage is built at a height of 100 metres to the sea level. With a length of 1632 metres, the barrage has a storage capacity of 16.17 TMC of water. It has 85 gates.
It has 17 under Suez gates. The water stored at Medigadda will remain up to a stretch of 42 kilometres behind the barrage. To avert any danger or mishaps Karakattas are built on either side of Godavari.
About 3500 workers toiled day and night to complete this barrage. 19 lakh cubic feet of concrete was sued here for the barrage in about 13 to 14 months time. By doing an RCC construction of 16,722 cubic metres in a single day, the workers have created a record here. The Meidgadda barrage is all set to for launch on June 21st.
Sundilla barrage is the third barrage being built on the Godavari river as part of Kaleshwaram project. This barrage is also built in the centre of the Godavari near Sundilla village, of Kamanpur Mandal at Peddpally district. The barrage work which commenced in 2017 ended in April 2017. The barrage is built at a height of 130 metres at sea level. It has a length of 1426 metres and a width of 89 metres.
The barrage can store upto 8.83 TMC of water.74 Radial gates have been arranged to the barrage. Each gate weighs about 70 tonnes. The water which stops here will spread up to a distance of 31 kilometres behind. Here also Karakattas or sea wall has been built on either side of Godavari. About 4000 workers toiled day and night for the construction of this barrage. The road laid on the bridge makes the travel very easy for the people of Peddpally and Mancherial.
