The name of Venkaiah Naidu has been finalised for the VP Post. The BJP leaders have convinced him to the VP so that he can become the President of India later after his tenure as VP. Personally he was not interested to come out of active politics, but he was convinced by the PM Modi it is learnt.
The name of Venkaiah was under circulation for VP post ,but the BJP sources said the Maharashtra governor Vidysagar Rao was a sure winner as the BJP led NDA had overwhelming majority in the Lok Sabha. Factoring in Rajya Sabha MPs, Rao will have no problem in mopping up majority votes from the 790 members in both the houses.
But the name of Venkaiah is also doing rounds. Venkaiah is not interested and he wants to be in active politics .
it is going to be Vidyasagar Rao,” for VP Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP Jithender Reddy told but “It is not official yet.” The governor belongs to the same community as Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and is also related to KCR.
Vidyasagar Rao popular as CHV in BJP circles isn’t someone unfamiliar with the workings of legislative proceedings. He has spent years leading the party in Andhra legislative assembly.
PM Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah are playing their cards close to the chest,” a party leader commented.
There’s a strategy behind keeping the candidate a top secret right up to Monday evening, the day of the crucial presidential polls, for which the BJP is fielding a Dalit leader from UP — former Bihar governor Ramnath Kovind.
The government’s managers do not want to ruffle any feathers by declaring a vice-presidential nominee from a southern state, and risk squandering the votes of the vice presidential aspirants who will have fallen by the wayside.
Sources from the BJP said the choice dovetails with the BJP’s ambition to entrench itself in the South, what with BJP president Amit Shah aiming to capture power in Telangana.
Rao, who belongs to the upper-caste Velama community, hails from the country’s 29th state Telangana. Rao is a legally perfect man and can solve the issue with the know how of the constitution of India.
