Haryana wrestlers reigned supreme in the 36th boys and 19th girls sub-junior national wrestling championship which concluded at the DSA sports complex, Chittoor today. In the successfully conducted three-day event by Andhra Pradesh Wrestling Association more than 900 wrestlers from all parts of India took part.
After the defending champions Haryana who dominated from day one, it was Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra teams attracted everyone, putting up a nice performance, winning quite a few medals.
On the last day of the meet eight finals were held in different categories.In the 100kg Greco Roman style, Haryana’s Deepanshu won the gold, overcoming Vishumor of Chandigarh in a fight which was evenly poised till the last moment.
In the 56kg girls freestyle, Sonika Hooda of Haryana defeated Bharati Baghel of Uttar Pradesh quite comfortably to stand in first position. Karuna, another Haryana wrestlers had no difficulty in beating Kerala’s Rosemaria to achieve the gold.
Smt S Geervani Chandra Prakash, president of the championship (chairperson Zilla Parishad, Chittoor dist) graced the ocassion as chief guest.RK Purushottam, president of the Andhra Pradesh Wrestling association and also the secretary of APOA thanked everyone for extending cooperation in the succeessful conduct of the meet.
