65 Rachel wins Mumbai Marathon

Former Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) & CMD/APTRANSCO, Ms. Rachel Chatterjee, IAS (Retd.) and she performs a hat trick. She has won the gold in the Mumbai Marathon 2017 for the 65 + age category third year in succession.

She ran the full Marathon of 42.197km in 5:09. The Mumbai Marathon, started in 2004, is the largest marathon in Asia and the largest mass participation sporting event in Asia. Runners start and finish the 42-km race at the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), a famous railway station that is now UNESCO World Heritage Site.

From there they head north before turning south near the 13 mile point. Sites of interest along the wat include the Mahalakshmi Temple (one of the most famous temples in Mumbai) and the Flora Fountain (“a fusion of water, architecture and sculpture”, depicting the Roman goddess Flora).

The Mumbai Marathon saw over 10,000 participants in the full marathon. Residents of Mumbai lined the roads, offering food and drinks, and cheering the runners on in this great endurance feat.
