There was no other way the OU could do it. They are starving for funds. They want to collect funds one way or the other. The Government so far did not announce anything on this front.
Osmania University launched a separate website for the centenary celebrations .
The website gives the history of the university, pictures from the archives of visits from renowned personalities including Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman, and former President Neelam Sanjiva Reddy.
Most information is brief, and will not whet the appetite of those wanting to know more about the university. OU officials said that some information such publications and the Osmania Song will be uploaded soon, centenary celebrations calendar will be uploaded as and when they are finalised. The website has a payment gateway for those who desire to financially contribute to the centenary celebrations.
The money will be used to construct infrastructure including hostels and classrooms as part of celebrations. The university has drawn up a plan for about Rs 100 crore. The university has decided to give five types of cards to alumni based on their contributions centenary card for Rs 500, gold card for Rs 1,000, platinum card for Rs 5,000, VIP card for Rs 1 lakh.
A custom card is also on offer. Those who pay the Rs 1 lakh for the VIP card will be invited for dinner on the inaugural day of centenary celebrations. The names of all donors will be listed on the website regardless of their contribution.
A similar gateway has been incorporated for alumni residing abroad with the same cards but the donations sought is in dollars
