Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that his support for the centre’s demonetisation move shouldn’t be interpreted as a sign that he was close to allying once again with the BJP.

“I support demonetisation because I believe it is a good step. A political meaning should not be drawn from it,” he said today at a Leadership Summit, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to scrap old 500 and 1,000-rupee notes which has been challenged by most of the opposition.

He also said the ‘Grand Alliance’ forged ahead of this year’s Bihar elections between his party Janata Dal (United), the Congress and longtime rival Rashtriya Janata Dal led by Lalu Prasad Yadav will last the full five years of the term.

He was also searing in his criticism of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he said they believed “less in working and more on campaigning”.

“You announce something during the election campaign and then during governance you call it an election jumla (epithet) – is that governance?” Mr Kumar said.
