Barack Obama performed the role of dad-in-chief on Monday night as the US president broke out into some awkward dance moves to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.
Around 5,000 people visited the White House for the final Halloweencelebration of Mr Obama’s presidency.
The Obamas welcomed scores of superheroes and princesses, a Prince, and another youngster who dressed up as the president himself, gray hair and all. One youngster even dressed up as a “lame duck”.
We’ve been working on a little dance. We don’t know how it’s going to go, but we think we should all just try it anyway,” Mr Obama said before dancing to Thriller along with students dressed as zombies.
For nearly an hour, the president also handed out White House-labelled Hershey Kisses and first lady Michelle Obama handed out cookies on the South Drive.
Students from local schools and children from military families sported a wide range of costumes for the occasion.
The president jokingly told some of the youngsters earlier in the East Room that on Halloween, at least, he hoped they didn’t have to pay attention to the first lady about healthy eating.
“Candy for everybody,” said the first lady, who has been campaigning against childhood obesity during her time in the White House. The snack list, however, did also include some healthy fruit bars.
