Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who stole the hearts of the Indian fans with her superlative performance in vault finals of Rio Olympics 2016, has been recommended for the prestigious Khel Ratna award.
Despite finishing fourth in the event, the 23-old-girl from Tripura was lauded all over the country for her brave act.According to reports, Dipa will receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee on National Sports Day.
In the women’s vault final, Dipa’s average score was 15.066 from her two vaults of Tsukahara-720 and Prudonova where she logged 14.866 and 15.266 respectively to finish fourth behind Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber who logged 15.216.
