At least 22 people have been killed and more than 60 others have been injured in multiple shootings in United States’ Maine on Wednesday night, reported CNN. The suspect has been identified and is still at large.
The shootings took place across three separate locations in a bowling alley, a restaurant and a Walmart distribution centre in Maine’s second most populous city of Lewiston, as per reports in local media. Police, fire and rescue personnel were seen at the sites of reported shootings at around 7.15 pm local time (4, it said.
Police are yet to confirm the number of casualties. However, Lewiston City Councilor Robert McCarthy told CNN that 22 people have been killed so far, adding that he was told this information by a city administrator in a text message.
Meanwhile, Maine State Police said on social media that the shooter is at large and police are investigating in multiple locations. “There is an active shooter in Lewiston.
We ask people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked. Law enforcement is currently investigating at multiple locations. If you see any suspicious activity or individuals please call 911,” it said on X.
