The BJP on Friday chose its Gujarat unit chief Vijay Rupani as the State’s next Chief Minister. Nitin Patel will be his deputy.Vijay Rupani represents Rajkot West in the Gujarat Assembly. He is currently the Transport, Labour and Water Supplies minister in Anandiben Patel’s cabinet.
Mr. Rupani began his political innings as a student activist attached to ABVP, the student wing of RSS. He naturally moved to RSS and then to the BJP. Mr. Rupani was jailed during the Emergency.He has been the Mayor of Rajkot and served as minister in the cabinet of Narendra Modi.
This Jain leader is also the Chief of BJP’s Gujarat unit and enjoys close relationship with both Mr. Modi and Amit Shah.Nitin Patel distributed sweets at his residence, told media that he would talk to the Patidars and resolve their issues and also his supporters burst crackers in celebrations in his constituency Mehsana.
Till 2:30 p.m., he was confirmed but in the meeting of office bearers, central observers and Anandiben Patel and Amit Shah, heated arguments between Mr. Shah and Ms. Anandiben. That meeting lasted more than 45 minutes, organising secretary V. Satish came out mid way and reportedly talked to PM on the situation and that changed the scenario.
Mr. Shah did not yield on Nitin Patel as CM while Anandiben said the Patidar agitation that unsettled her government was internally engineered to dislodged her.
