Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari directed the District Collectors to carry out intensive relief and rehabilitation programs in the areas which were severely effected due to heavy rains in the state for the past few days.
Chief Secretary held a teleconference with the Collectors and took stock of the relief and
rehabilitation measures taken in the districts hit by heavy rains and floods, as well as pre-cautionary measures in accordance with the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
DGP Anjani Kumar, Special Chief Secretary Finance Ramakrishna Rao, Special Chief Secretary Irrigation Rajat Kumar, Secretary of Disaster Management Department Rahul Bojja, DG Fire Services Department and other senior officials participated in this teleconference.
CS said that an NDRF team is being sent immediately to Khammam town and a helicopter to Burugampahad as per the orders given by the Hon’ble Chief Minister. She stated that relief programs should be undertaken in flood-prone areas as well as railway stations and bus stands where passengers are stuck.She said that the required blankets, bed sheets and additional medicines will be sent to the districts.
She complimented the district collectors for having worked together with the district government administration so far to prevent loss of life and property even as heavy rains have been lashing the state for the past few days.
She asked the officials to work as a team in the days to come. District Collectors, CPs/SPs have been ordered to stay in the district headquarters and monitor the situation from time to time. She said that people should be made aware of the precautionary measures to be taken due to heavy rains and floods. All primary health centers, community health centers, district hospitals and private hospitals in the districts should be kept open 24 hours a day, she said.
Chief Secretary informed that 10,696 people from 108 villages have been shifted to safer places in the state. 600 people from Morampalli village of Bhupalpally district and 19 workers stranded in a sand quarry near Gopalpur of Manthani in Peddapalli district were rescued and shifted to safer location. Six persons were rescued by the Army helicopter in Morampalli village.
She said that steps are being taken to send NDRF and other support teams as per the requests received from the Collectors of various districts.
Four more helicopters and 10 NDRF teams have been requested to be sent and some NDRF teams are expected soon, she added.
DGP Anjani Kumar said that with the help of the district administration,7 thousand people have been shifted to safe places so far. He said that national highways and other roads have been damaged in 85 areas and steps have been taken with the officials of the concerned departments to repair them. He stated that the police are working in coordination with the district collectors and the administration. Disaster Management Secretary Rahul Bojja said that NDRF teams are participating in relief and rehabilitation activities in various parts of the state. Special Chief Secretary Finance Ramakrishna Rao said that the Collectors have been authorized to draw the necessary funds for
relief and rehabilitation programs.
