Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the significance of the democratization of technology in bridging the data divide while addressing a grouping of the G20. He stressed the importance of high-quality data for effective policy-making, efficient resource allocation and improved public service delivery.
He called for increased investment in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and finding solutions to address the debt risks faced by many nations.
Additionally, he emphasized the need for reforming multilateral financial institutions to expand eligibility criteria, ensuring finance accessibility for those in need. The Prime Minister acknowledged the severe impact of the global Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions on developing nations, leading to disruption in food, fuel, and fertiliser supplies.
In highlighting the spirit of Kashi (Varanasi), Modi encouraged G20 delegates to explore and experience the city’s essence, including the Ganga Aarti and visiting Sarnath, expressing confidence that it would inspire them to achieve their desired outcomes.
Regarding women’s empowerment, he stressed on the significance of gender equality and women’s empowerment in achieving the SDGs. India’s approach extends beyond women’s empowerment to women-led development, where women set the agenda and serve as agents of growth and change. He urged the adoption of a game-changing action plan for women-led development.
