Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal Temple is one of the 108 Vaishnava Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. It is a place of importance next to Tiruvarangam and Tirupati. Perumal is known as Varadaraja Perumal because he gave darshan and a boon to Lord Brahma who worshiped him.

In this temple Perumal, made of fig tree, named ‘Athi Varadhar’, is worshiped in the temple Thirukkulam. Once in 40 years he would come out of the pond and give darshan to the devotees. Last year 2019, Athivaradhar gave darshan to lakhs of devotees.

At the Varadaraja Perumal Temple, the Kanchipuram Idli, which is offered to Perumal, is very popular. Apart from this, dosa and vada are made naivediya.

Prasad Idli is prepared with pepper and ghee without adding chilli. After offering the two idlis to Perumal, one idli is given to the temple handiwork and another idli is given to the commanding officer. Dosa and vada are offered as prasad to the devotees who come to the temple.
