Minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare Sri T.Harish Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry Sri Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Hon’ble Minister for PR & RD Sri Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Energy Sri G.Jagadish Reddy along with Chief Secretary Sri Somesh Kumar IAS held a Video Conference with all District Collectors and Other District Officials from BRKR Bhavan today and reviewed the arrangements being made for the Kanti Velugu programme which is to be launched on the 18th of this month.
Minister Harish Rao stated that the government has taken up this prestigious programme on a mission mode to work for avoidable blindness free Telangana. The main objective of the programme is to conduct eye screening and vision test for all citizens, to provide spectacles free of cost and to provide medicines for common eye ailments. He stated that 1.54 crore patients were screened and more than 50 lakh spectacles were provided to the patients during the first round of Kanti Velugu programme.
Minister sought the cooperation of public representatives to ensure mobilization. He said that district level meetings should be conducted before the 12th of this month involving District Minister, MPs, ZP Chairpersons, MLAs MLCs and other public representatives. Special meetings of mandal parishads and municipal councils should also be held to discuss the objectives, modalities and schedule of Kanti Velugu programme. District Collectors were asked to tour extensively and monitor the implementation of the programme. Camp location, arrangements and logistics have already been planned by the districts, the minister said and added that 30 lakh spectacles have already been dispatched to the districts.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar directed that proper planning should be done in advance and all arrangements like shamiyanas, drinking water, toilets, sanitation, electricity supply and queue management should be made at the camps so as to ensure optimum utilization of the camps.
