The Union government has decided to officially celebrate Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 with a grand event here in Hyderabad. The Ministry of Culture will organise a programme at Parade Grounds.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to address a parade on the day to mark Hyderabad State’s accession to India in 1948. Union Culture and Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy said on behalf of the Central government, he would invite the chief minister of Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra to the programme. Telangana and some districts of present-day Karnataka and Maharashtra were part of erstwhile Hyderabad State.
The State Government for the first time is also planning to celebrate liberation day for three days here in Hyderabad. MIM MP Owaisi also announced that they would celebrate the liberation day in the Old City.
Owaisi said that it should be celebrated as National Integration day. Bandi Sanjay the BJP Chief claimed that it was because of the BJP that all parties have agreed to celebrate this historic occasion.
Communist leader T Veerabhadram claimed that the BJP has nothing to do with the liberation day. He suggested that it should not be seen as a fight between Hindus and Muslims.
