Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday
stated that the role of universities need to play a pivotal role in transforming
the country into a knowledge-based economy.
“The National Education Policy-2020 aims to create a knowledge-based
economy and to ensure the country’s journey towards emerging as the
knowledge superpower. This is where the higher educational institutions
should take the lead,” she added.
Delivering the Chancellor’s Address at the 15th Convocation of the Potti
Sreeramulu Telugu University at Ravindra Bharathi, here, the Governor
also called for a rethinking on the assessment parameters related to the
students’ performance in the universities.
The Governor also emphasized on the need for adopting the application-
driven curriculum from the content-driven curriculum to promote all-round
innovation.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan appreciated the efforts of the Potti Sreeramulu
Telugu University in promoting and perpetuating our unique arts and
culture through different courses and programmes.
Congratulating the gold medal winners and others who were receiving their
degrees, the Governor exhorted them to work for the country’s progress
through their commitment, dedication, and efforts for excellence in their
chosen fields.
As part of the Convocation, the honorary doctorate was conferred upon the
Telangana State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice G.
Chandraiah, who was also the chief guest on the occasion.
A total of 73 scholars were presented with doctoral degrees and 21
scholars received their M. Phil degrees, while 21 students and scholars
were given gold medals in different streams.
PSRU Vice Chancellor Prof. T. Kishan Rao, Registrar Prof. B. Ramesh,
deans, senior faculty members, students, and parents were present on the
occasion.
