The Hyderabad police and the water board have given a red alert to the people living in the low-lying areas that the water will be released from the Himayasagar this evening.
The water has reached above the danger level in the Himayasagar due to heavy rains. The rains are expected to be heaving in the coming two days.
So taking the dam safety into serious account the water board has decided to lift the gates by this night. So the revenue department in coordination with the police has been suggested to evacuate the people living in the low-lying areas of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
The reservoir capacity is 2.97 TMC and by Tuesday morning, the water level stood at 2.753 TMC. Rains that have been lashing the city and its surrounding areas for more than a week have resulted in heavy inflows into the Himayat Sagar. Waterboard officials have already informed the revenue department regarding the water levels.
HMWSSB stated said that to relocate the people in downstream areas, it has sought assistance from the Revenue department, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, and the police
