Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad organized a virtual talk on “Girl Child Rights by Shri. Kailash Satyarthi”, Noble Peace Laureate
Speaking on the occasion Dr.Kailash Satyarthi highlighted that:
- A girl who denied education will loose opportunities, equity and discriminated sociologically, legally, economically and politically. In India Our goddess as women but we have not yet acknowledged our women as a human being.
- Child rights and human rights are interconnected and we have many other rights also but when we speak of Girl rights then many road blocks will arise because they are girls.
- He shared the work of their organization in 144 countries for betterment of children. He highlighted their intervention of Child Friendly Villages in 600+ villages with a motto to empower children to see no sexual abuse, child labour, child marriages and must attend school. Started creating Bal Panchayaths in these villages and made Grampanchayath and Bal Panchayath work hand in hand to allocate funds, activities to empower children in the village.
- He shared the success story of Girl who was forced for child labor and pressurized for child marriage was empowered and received Global goal keep award from BMGF .
- All what he achieved was because of Empowerment, community participation and leadership of survivors.
- At least 5 children sexually abused every hour in the world and conviction, prosecution rate of these cases are very slow and disbursal rate is even slower.
- He shared they are going to work with 100 districts in India to support sexually abused children and he felt TISS can support by research and data on this work.
- Satya shared United Nations announced this year for elimination of Girl Child Labour in the world.
- He advised all the participants to adopt the strategy of 3 Ds, Dream big, Discover and Do.
- Satya concluded the talk saying India has to speak and standup, Education is like empowerment and there is no substitute, every family should give education to girls and treat equally.
