After imposing restrictions on the OTT and social media, now the Modi Government is looking at banning WhatsApp it is reported.
Traders’ body CAIT wrote to Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanding that the government restrict WhatsApp from implementing its new privacy policy or impose a ban on the messaging app and its parent company Facebook,.
WhatsApp had started rolling out in-app notifications to users about an update in its Terms of Service and privacy policy regarding how it processes user data and partners with Facebook to offer integrations across the social media giant’s products.
It also stated that users will have to agree to the new terms and policy by February 8, 2021, in order to continue using WhatsApp’s service. Later it took a U turn an is maintaining statusquo over the issue.
We have to see if Facebook will take a decision or will the central Government take a decision first. WhatsApp-Signal-Instagram are some of the platforms being used by the people from time to time.
But they cannot function under the guidelines being stipulated by the Central Government in terms of social media. So the only option left for the centre is to ban the Apps.
