Ten newborn kids between the age of one month and three months died due to fire accident that occurred in a hospital in Maharashtra. The fire occured after midnight at around 2am and kids were charred to death in the fire.
The incident occurred in Bhandara district in a Government hospital where 17 newborn kids were in the ICU. Chief Minister Uddhav Thacekrey expressed his anguish and surprise over the incident.
Prime Minister Modi also expressed his shock over the fire accident where 10 kids died. An exgratia of Rs 5 lakh was announced to the families of the kids who died in the fire accident.
An enquiry was already ordered into the incident. Seven other kids who were admitted to the unit were however rescued.
The duty doctor said a nurse first noticed smoke coming out from the neonatal section of the hospital and alerted doctors and other staff who reached there in five minutes.
Fire brigade personnel rescued seven babies from the ‘inbound ward’ of the unit but could not save the 10 other babies it is reported.
