A R Rahman the Mozart of Madras turns 54

Legendary music director Alla Rakha Rahaman popular as AR Rahman will be turning 54 today. Rahman who has started music at a young age has become popular across the world with his award winning music for Slumdog Millionaire.

Rahman worked with SP Balasubramanyam and also Koti as an assistant and later started composing jingles for the advertisements. He was identified by the ace director Mani Ratnam and gave him an opportunity to compose music for Roja with a paltry payment of just Rs10000.

Later there was no looking back for Rahman. Rahmans father was also a musician.

Apart from Bollywood songs, Rahman also composed the songs for many Hollywood films including 127 Hours and Lord Of War. The singer-composer has bagged many prestigious awards including four national awards, two academy awards, two Grammy awards, a BAFTA awards, a Golden Globe award, fifteen Filmfare Awards, and sixteen Filmfare Awards south.

His songs for the Rock Star movie acted by Ranbir Kapoor are very famous. The musician has also been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award, in 2010 by the Government of India.

Perhaps Rahman has not yet worked with Salman Khan. People say they have some differences. He has done music to many of the top heroes.
