Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao was on the job inspecting many areas and tweeted: “Road repairs (to be) taken up on a priority basis in Hyderabad. Once current spell of rain subsides, all roads will be restored.”Clad in a blue T shirt and informal dress he along with Mayor Bonthu Rammohan visited many areas in the city and talked to the residents in the noon. While he was on tour it rained cats and dogs.
Two centimeters of rain was recorded in on hour and siutaiton is now worse in Hyderabad. A day after the city was pounded by heavy rain, the Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao visited some of the worst affected areas. He drove down to Allamthota Baavi and Mayuri Marg localities in Begumpet, where rows of houses came under sheet of water after the Begumpet Nala overflowed.
The Met office on the other hand has forecast heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahaboobnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy and Warangal districts.Fears of heavy rainfall on Thursday came true as eight areas in Hyderabad recorded over 20 mm rainfall in just 60 minutes.
Life came to a grinding halt in several parts of the city, as overflowing streets, water logging in low lying areas and arterial junctions made life of people miserable.
West Maredpally received the highest amount of 31 mm rainfall followed by Chilakalaguda (30 mm) and Monda Market (28.7 mm). Srinagar Colony, Trimulgherry, Balanagar, Fever Hospital and Narayanguda received over 20 mm rain.
A dilapidated house collapsed in Yakutpura but there was no loss of life, even as the GHMC Commissioner B.Janardhan Reddy alerted the monsoon teams to be high alert in view of the heavy downpour.
An army of GHMC workers have been deployed in the affected areas of Kukatpally, Moosapet, and other areas to bring normalcy to the rain-battered city. Water from Yellamma Banda that gushed into Allwyn Colony, Guru Gobind Nagar and Sai Baba Colony, Dharani Nagar near Kukatapally finally drained away today morning, residents said.
