Prime Minister Modi today launched the mega insurance scheme for the poor. It is one of the worlds largest government-funded insurance scheme where a member can avail medical facilities under the insurance up to Rs 5 lakhs.
The scheme will officially come into force from September 25. It is titled as Aysuhman Bharat. The official estimate is that 50 crore Indians would be benefitted by this health scheme. It can be availed in private and also Government hospitals. No cash has to be paid. Just walk in with the Insurance and your identity proof. 31 states including the union territories would implement the scheme.
Here 60 per cent contribution is from Centre and the rest would have to be borne by the states. The program is also called as Pradhanmantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan. All family members of all the ages will be covered under this PM insurance programme and there is no restriction.
States like Telangana, Delhi, Punjab, Kerala and Odisha have not signed with the centre for this scheme so far. But so far people are confused as to who is eligible for the scheme and how one should join the insurance scheme so on and so forth. It would be good if the centre can issue the guidelines properly for this scheme. So that the poorest of the poor will be able to utilise it.
