The minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Mr K T Rama Rao directed the officials to take up road repairs on war footing that were damaged during the latest rains in the city. The minister held a meeting with the municipal officials and took stock of the situation in the city. He announced that an expert committee would be constituted to monitor and guide the GHMC in the maintenance of roads. This committee will meet every month and advice the GHMC on maintaining roads in the city. He directed the municipal officials to take up road repairs on a war footing by constituting 150 special teams in each of the division.
He said that top priority should be given to the quality of the works taken up and officials have to supervise the works to ensure that quality is not compromised. The staff of GHMC who are engaged in other works may be utilised for taking up the repair works till they are completed, the minister added. He also suggested utilising staff from other departments, if needed to ensure speedycompletion of the road repair works in the city. The engineering wing of the department should formulate immediate short term and long term strategies in this regard.
He asked the officials to take up the road repair works with utmost dedication and devotion as the government’s image is likely to be affected and all the good work done by the government in other sectors is negated by the bad condition of roads in the city. He also cautioned the officials to be on high alert in view of the weather forecast of heavy rains in the city during the next 48 hours.Officials assured the minister that they would work to and ensure that all the potholes in the city would be filled within a week. Officials from R&B, Hyderabad Metro Rail, NHAI and others attended the meeting.
