BodhaGuru, an Ed-Tech based social enterprise based in Hyderabad, Telangana, today started the roll-out of NjoyReading Kits by training head-masters of 30 government primary schools at Aliya Model Government Primary School, Hyderabad.
The goal of this initiative is to strengthen Telugu and English language reading skills of 2000 students studying in grade 1 to 5 in these schools. The initiative was launched in presence of Deputy Inspector of Schools, Om Prakash, of Nampally Mandal, Government of Telangana.
NjoyReading Kit is a bus shaped electronic learning toy with a set of 30 audio and activity enabled books designed for learning languages Telugu, Hindi, Urdu and English to start with. The kit has a child friendly design, in-built speakers, operates on batteries, while consuming extremely low power .
The books are designed by pedagogy experts, in-line with 3R program of Government of Telangana. Each book starts with a short moral story followed by learning concepts and simple learning activities. It is extremely simple to use – a group of students sit next to the kit, place one of the book on the kit and interact with it by pressing visual indicators marked on the picture book using their fingers & learn while the kit responds with engaging narration, music and lights.
Speaking on the need for NjoyReading Kit, Mr Samir Jain, Co Founder and Director of BodhaGuru recollected, “We have been working on improving Science & Maths skills from the last six years and saw the challenge of lack of reading skills closely – even in high schools. And reading requires practice and constant feedback. Due to lack of technology infrastructure in primary schools, lesser teachers and students with varied learning levels, it required some grounds-up solution to address this urgent need.”
