A 6 lane expressway built for easing traffic congestion and pollution is waiting for the launch. It was thought that the Prime Minister would inaugurate it at the earliest. But it is not happening. The express corridor was supposed to be inaugurated by the PM last month itself. But the PM could not make it so far. The traffic snarls continue.
The supreme court said that it was not right to wait for the Prime Minister. There are several things which are in operation without any body’s launch the court observed. The court also has given a warning that the expressway must be opened by the end of May.
The bench said that the Meghalaya court has been functioning without any inauguration since last 5 years. Why should we need the Prime Minister or wait for the Prime Minister when the people are suffering from pollution and traffic congestion.
The court has set a deadline of May 31 to the road authority to open the expressway with or without any inauguration for the sake of the public. The expressway was completed with about 5700 crores and it was delayed many times.
On the other hand, when the court asked about a decision on Cauvery waters, the Government cited the reason of PM being busy with the Karnataka elections.
