The cinema theatres in the states of Andhra and Telangana were closed as the producers were on strike against as the digital service providers who charge exorbitant prices to the producers.
The latest news is that theatres will re-open from this coming Friday as some main heads from the South Industry are trying to resolve the issue at the earliest possible.
If things go as planned, an official announcement regarding this will be out by today evening.
Earlier they called off the strike on Monday, but the talks failed it is reported. Now they are in talks and if everything goes well the movies might resume from this Friday.
The cinema industry has been at loggerheads over the charges imposed by digital service providers (DSP) like QUBE. Over the past two weeks, the producers’ council and QUBE have gone back and forth discussing many proposals to resolve the issues and avert the strike called for by the former.
The discussions began in Chennai, then moved on to Hyderabad, and finally to Bengaluru. At the recently concluded meet in Bengaluru, QUBE’s final offer has been rejected by the producers’ council, and therefore, they were on strike from March 2.
