May be this is happening for the first time. All members of the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, the DMK, have been suspended for a week from the state legislature.
The party alleged biased action by the Speaker who ordered the eviction of the DMK members and accused Chief Minister J Jayalalitha of creating conditions similar to the Emergency of the 70s.
The DMK’s 89 legislators were removed after they objected to what they described as “disrespectful remarks” against their leader, MK Stalin by a member of the ruling AIADMK party. Both the ruling and the opposition members could not come to terms .
“Opposition members need to be treated with respect and decorum, these are people’s elected representatives,” said DMK spokesperson Manu Raj Sundaram. But the ruling party did not bother about this.
