Over 70 percent voting was registered in Gujarat at close of polling at 5pm in the first phase, though there were still long queues lined up to vote at most polling stations, Chief Electoral Officer BB Swain said on Saturday.
The Congress alleges that some EVMs in Porbandar, Surat, Jetpur and Navsari are linked to Bluetooth, while the EC says it has replaced some EVMs.
Around 41% voting was recorded till 2 pm. Action, meanwhile, has shifted to campaigning for Phase 2 and in focus was a tweet mocking the PM by Salman Nizami. PM Narendra Modi says Nizami is an aide of Rahul Gandhi, while the Congress denies knowing him. The latter has accused PM Modi of “gifting” land to industrialists.
