Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao today said the Central government was just following the schemes being implemented in the state of Telangana.

KTR was speaking after the launch of an Urban park in Hyderabad. So far, 220 crore saplings have been planted under Haritha Haram programme at a total cost of Rs.5900 crore. This year, the target is to plant 20 crore saplings and distribute six saplings to each household, said the Minister.

He said that the centre, impressed by Telangana’s welfare and developmental programmes, was implementing the same schemes across the country.

After Telangana launched Mission Bhagiratha to provide safe drinking water to every household in the State, the Union government came up with the Jal Jeevan programme.

KTR said that Impressed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Rythu Bandhu programme, the Centre was now implementing the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana scheme, benefitting nearly 16 crore farmers.

The latest programme being planned is “Nagar Van” inspired by Telangana Government’s Urban Forest Parks development programme, the Minister pointed out.

KTR while appealing to the people to actively participate in the Haritha Haram programme, urged them not to consider it a government programme.

“Haritha Haram programme is meant to increase the green cover in the State and not to derive any political mileage,” he said. This programme ensures a safe environment for our future generations and saves the planet, he said.

The Minister pointed out that the Forest Survey of India, in its report, said that green cover in Telangana had increased from 23 per cent to 28 per cent in the last few years.

He said that this was possible only because of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s vision and effective implementation of Haritha Haram programme.

The target is to increase the green cover to 33 per cent, KTR said.
