The hit Bollywood film 2 States starring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, is all set to be remade in Telugu. The film that is based on a popular novel by Chetan Bhagat, is being produced by Abhishek Nama of Abhishek Pictures, who has confirmed that he has got the remake rights.
He added, “Venkat Kuchem has worked with V.V. Vinayak for nearly 10 years and I am introducing him as director,” confirmed Abhishek.
This is the first time that Karan Johar has sold his film rights to a filmmaker from a regional language. According to a source, Abhishek paid nearly Rs 55 lakh for the rights. There have been several instances earlier when many from the Tollywood industry wanted the rights of Karan’s films, but were declined.
However, Abhishek managed to get the remake rights, and plans to start shooting next month.
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha will play the lead pair. Though Samantha has not been signing any Telugu films after Janatha Garage, the producer is confident about convincing her.
“Samantha is a Malayali and Naga Chaitanya is a Telugu boy, so the subject suits them and their real life relationship will add glamour to it if they sign this film,” says a source. Apart from the lead pair, the producer wants to rope in actors like Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Ramya Krishna, Revathi and others for this film.
