The email, the report said, was sent to medical students at the Free University of Brussels (ULB)Men, however, were told to wear a suit for next month\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n
The email also told female graduates, \u201cOf course, ladies, this advice is not obligatory,\u201d the report said.The email caused an outcry on social media, BBC News reported.
\nUniversity officials later released a statement on Facebook and Twitter, on behalf of its medical faculty, to apologize to all students who had received the message.<\/p>\n
The statement called the dress code advice inappropriate and said went against the university’s values.<\/p>\n
The report said a screen grab of the original email had been shared on a light-hearted Facebook page, ULB Confessions, which expressed outrage at the “little scandal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hundreds of students responded, BBC News reported, accusing the university of being sexist.<\/p>\n
The ULB Confessions page also published a student\u2019s response: “No one has the right to tell you how you should feel in your skin. Nobody has the right to tell you how to dress. No one has the right to tell you how to play your role as a woman.
