{"id":82603,"date":"2017-05-09T12:58:39","date_gmt":"2017-05-09T07:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/?p=82603"},"modified":"2017-05-09T12:58:39","modified_gmt":"2017-05-09T07:28:39","slug":"hc-judge-sent-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/hc-judge-sent-jail\/","title":{"rendered":"HC judge sent to Jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an unprecedented order, the Supreme Court directed that Calcutta High Court judge Justice C S Karnan be immediately sent to jail for six months for contempt of court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A seven-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar said, &#8220;We are of unanimous view that Justice C S Karnan committed contempt of court, contempt of judiciary and the process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bench also comprising Justices Dipak Misra, J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, M B Lokur, P C Ghose and Kurian Joseph said that it is satisfied that Justice Karnan be sentenced for six months in jail<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-82604\" src=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/jagdish-singh-khehar-cji-be-sworn-as_a8fe8e3a-bbbe-11e6-a898-3949986517f3.jpg\" alt=\"HC judge sent to Jail\" width=\"960\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/jagdish-singh-khehar-cji-be-sworn-as_a8fe8e3a-bbbe-11e6-a898-3949986517f3.jpg 960w, https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/jagdish-singh-khehar-cji-be-sworn-as_a8fe8e3a-bbbe-11e6-a898-3949986517f3-768x437.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The sentence shall be executed and he be taken into custody forthwith,&#8221; the bench said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is the first time that a high court judge is being sent to jail by the Supreme Court on charges of contempt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bench also banned the media, both print and electronic, from publishing the content of further orders, if passed by Justice Karnan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In an unprecedented order, the Supreme Court directed that Calcutta High Court judge Justice C S Karnan be immediately sent to jail for six months for contempt of court.
