Apart from enhancing well-being, people who spend their time on spiritual, meditative and religious retreats are likely to have changes in the brains systems associated with mood and social behaviour, sleep and memory, says a study.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The findings showed that the changes in the dopamine \u2014 responsible for mediating cognition, emotion and movement \u2014 and serotonin \u2014 involved in emotional regulation and mood \u2014 systems in the brains may prime the brain for spiritual experiences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-71633 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/ok-8.jpg\" alt=\" Go for a Teerth yatra ...\" width=\"758\" height=\"376\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The post-retreat scans revealed decreases in dopamine transporter (5-8%) and serotonin transporter (6.5%) binding, which could make more of the neurotransmitters available to the brain.This is associated with positive emotions and spiritual feelings. \u201cSince serotonin and dopamine are part of the reward and emotional systems of the brain, it helps us understand why these practices result in powerful, positive emotional experiences,\u201d said Andrew Newberg, Director of Research at US.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-71634 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/ujjain-mahakaal.jpg\" alt=\"  Go for a Teerth yatra ...\" width=\"447\" height=\"447\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the study, post their retreats participants showed marked improvements in their perceived physical health, tension and fatigue.
