Not content with raking up a controversy by claiming that his party had \u2018prettier campaigners\u2019 than Congress\u2019 Priyanka Gandhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Vinay Katiyar on Wednesday dragged Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani into the row.<\/p>\n

In an interview to a TV, Katiyar refused to apologise for his remarks on Priyanka and said, \u201cI think Smriti Irani is as beautiful and she is also campaigning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grilled over his \u2018sexist\u2019 remarks and the ensuing controversy, Katiyar added, “I was responding to reporters. I said Priyanka is beautiful but others are beautiful too.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that he had \u2018huge respect\u2019 for Priyanka and that \u2018she can say what she likes\u2019.<\/p>\n

Priyanka is one of the star campaigners of Congress for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and has also played an important role in forging an alliance between Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP).<\/p>\n

To a question, the BJP’s firebrand leader said, “It doesn’t matter…there are girls and women who are more beautiful than her (Priyanka) and are also star campaigners.<\/p>\n

“Some of them are artists and heroines…they are more beautiful than her,” he said.<\/p>\n

Katiyar also reportedly walked out of the interview following the barrage of questions.<\/p>\n

Talking to reporters earlier, Katiyar tried to downplay his remarks saying it was an internal matter of Congress as to whom they want to appoint as their campaigner.<\/p>\n

But, he added that if Congress is under the impression that they have the beautiful face of Priyanka for campaigning then to counter they also have many beautiful faces which BJP may ask to campaign for party.<\/p>\n
